Alyssa Anwar didn’t mind standing in 90-degree heat for three hours Sunday for the chance to hear teen singing sensation Demi Lovato.
“I would have walked here if my mom couldn’t take us,” the 12-year-old Grand Prairie girl said.
Other crazed fans arrived as early as 7 a.m. at the State Fair of Texas’ outdoor stage to hear Demi, a 16-year-old Dallas native who is moving toward superstardom.
Demi has performed with teen idol band the Jonas Brothers, starred in the recent Disney movie Camp Rock and released her first CD last week.
Hundreds of screaming admirers, most of them girls, stood shoulder to shoulder on hot asphalt to witness the Demi Lovato phenomenon. No one complained that the venue had no seating.
“Demi, Demi!” fans shouted before she took the stage at 5:35 p.m.

Demi Lovato: Meet Disney’s New Princess She starred in ”Camp Rock.” She toured with the Jonas Brothers. Now, with the release of her debut album, ”Don’t Forget,” this 16-year-old may just be the next Miley Cyrus
”I’m a pop singer. I’m not gonna try to be ‘Oh, I’m hardcore….’ I’m with Disney! But bubblegum isn’t really my thing.”
A pretty girl, an old-fashioned candy shop, a sunny September afternoon — what could be sweeter? Sixteen-year-old Demi Lovato, loose coffee-colored waves tumbling over her shoulders, chin distinctly dimpled, grabs giddily at handfuls of Gobstoppers and jelly beans inside Economy Candy, a decades-old fixture on New York City’s Lower East Side. The Norman Rockwell tableau is marred, however, by a phenomenon entirely new to Lovato: the relentless platinum pop of a dozen paparazzi flashbulbs, only feet from the store’s entrance. Apparently, a celebrity photo agency has been tipped off to the young star’s presence here today for an EW photo shoot, and in this iPhone-riddled, post-Perez world, word spreads fast.
Old folks may not know her name yet, but to the Disney demographic, Lovato is already major. She is best known as the costar, alongside teen dreamboats the Jonas Brothers, of the Disney TV movie Camp Rock, which has already been seen by 35 million U.S. viewers since its premiere in June. Now she has released her debut album, Don’t Forget, featuring extensive contributions from the Jonases. (She also spent the summer opening their frenzy-inducing tour.) And with even more projects in the works, there’s a chance the Dallas native could unseat the Mouse’s reigning queen, Miley Cyrus. Still, when told that several photographers have abandoned a sighting of tabloid catnip Katie Holmes in order to rush downtown and capture this moment, Lovato’s doll-like brown eyes widen in seemingly genuine disbelief. ”Whoa. For me, seriously?”

Demi Lovato talked to Fresno Bee about not being allowed to read gossip sites and her new show. In the article it said that Demi was headed to New York on Saturday to do a COVER SHOOT for Seventeen magazine. So, that’s why she was chillin’ in the airport last weekend. Excerpts:
Is there pressure working for Disney? Right now I’m doing what I love to do. It just so happens to be Disney and they happen to be one of the coolest companies ever. It’s like a family over there. They don’t really put pressure on us. How does being labeled the next Miley Cyrus effect you? I’m not allowed to read some of the gossip sites because they really take a toll on you. So I don’t see a lot of that. I like to focus on what I’m doing. I’m just having a good time right now. What have you learned from Jonas Brothers? They’re very down-to-earth guys. They taught me to stay anonymous in some places I go. They’ve just helped a lot on tour.
What’s it like so far starring in your own series Sonny With a Chance? It’s very crazy. I was nervous in the beginning. It’s hard to carry a comedy show. If you’re not funny, the show is not going to be funny. I’ve never had a lot of confidence in comedy, but I’ve really let loose and totally had fun with it. Last night, I started off really nervous and in the first take I messed up all the words. Overall, though, it turned out very well. What’s tougher: Filming a TV show or the day your CD comes out? Definitely the day the CD comes out. The TV show is more relaxing. You’ve got all day to do your thing. Half the time I’m in school, so I get to relax in school. Thx boo boo magoo.
Demi Lovato’s upcoming Disney Channel TV show is called Sonny With A Chance, reports Spanish magazine Para Todos.
“It’s about a girl named Sonny having a chance to make it in [show] business,” the 16-year-old Camp Rock star tells the mag. “We filmed the first episode and we will continue to film the series through the next few months.”
Sonny With a Chance is set to air in February or March 2009.
Demi’s debut album, Don’t Forget, is due out in stores TOMORROW, September 23rd. She tells Para Todos that she doesn’t have any big plans to celebrate: “I’m actually going to be working, so I haven’t really planned a party, but I might just have a bunch of people over and have pizza or something.”
And who does she look up to for fashion inspiration? Lindsay Lohan. “I think her style is awesome,” Demi shared. “She’s one of those very fashionable people, so who wouldn’t love her style. I also like Keira Knightley’s style, she has great style.”
UPDATE: There’s a slight chance the show is called Sunny With A Chance but I’m told during the interview, Demi was asked to spelled it out and she said: “S-O-N-N-Y”!
